JR is truly from a bygone era. He was born Steven W. Jones, Jr, but has adopted the handle "J.R." somewhere along the trail. His parents knew he was destined to be a cowboy when he drug his lariat rope everywhere he crawled. JR grew up on various working cattle ranches in Oregon and Washington. It was there that he discovered a talent for horse training and a love for leathercraft. While training horses, JR learned the value of custom handmade and durable tack. He began by repairing some of his tack and ultimately started creating his own, as well and chaps and chinks. By the time he was in high school, JR was a champion saddle bronc rider and twice competed at the High School National Finals. Having excelled at the most traditional of rodeo events, JR picked up bull riding in his twenties. Rodeoing and cowboying across the western United State, JR has lived and worked in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Texas (where he currently resides). He has done just about everything a cowboy can do: trained horses, rodeoed, packed into the mountains, wrangled at guest ranches, worked at feed lots, and now manages Hoof & Hide LLC's own cattle and spread.
JR has appeared in magazines, western motion pictures, and had been the subject of several western artists. His leather work has appeared in newspapers and even used as advertising for one of Hoof & Hide LLC's suppliers. JR's cowboy work ethic and pride in craftsmanship who in the quality, durability, and usability of Hoof & Hide LLC's leatherwork. Each piece is designed and individually handcrafted by JR Jones.
As often may be the case, both cowboys and artists are very good at what they do, but have little interest in the day-to-day operations and accounting of a business. That's where Kara Jones comes in. Kara Jones grew up in California and moved to Texas to attend college. She is a CPA with a Masters from Texas A&M University. Kara does the billing, leather ordering, shipping, accounting, etc. for Hoof & Hide LLC. If you are ordering from Hoof & Hide LLC, it is likely that you will speak with both JR and Kara. Kara will handle the ordering, billing, shipping side of your order, and JR will handle the design and details of your order.
On the road again . . . It's hard to get away from the ranch and from all of our orders, but we do hit the road for a show or two. You can find us each November in Amarillo, Texas at the:
Working Ranch Cowboy Association's (WRCA) World Championship Ranch Rodeo (WCRR).
We are a proud award sponsor of the Ranch Bronc Riding and look forward to this show every year. You can find more information about the WRCA and the WCRR at www.wrca.org.
For some of our regular customers, you might remember that we used to also attend the following shows:
Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Cowboy Christmas -- Las Vegas, Nevada
Texas Stampede -- Dallas, Texas
Due to the growth of our business and family commitments, we are unable to attend these shows any more. We will miss seeing you at them, but would welcome seeing you any time you are in our part of the woods. Give us a call and we can still take your orders over the phone.
